The Witcherfranchise has been under heavy scrutiny for the past few months. Despite its good start after the debut of the series onNetflix, after the announcement that Henry Cavill would abandon the role of Geralt of Rivia, things have not gone well for the show.

Initially, many believed that the actor was leaving the production to focus on his return as Superman to the DCU. However, this did not happen; still, Cavill will stay away from the series. Then, fans began to speculate that his departure could have to do with conflicts related to the creative aspects of the story and his lack of authenticity to the original material, of which the actor is a faithful fan.

Additionally, the premiere ofThe Witcher: Blood Origin, a spin-off of the series, resulted in a terrible failure, highly criticized by fans of the saga. However, despite all the conflicts, the third season is already confirmed, as well as a fourth one, which will be the first with Liam Hemsworth taking the lead role.

However, it seems that the series renewal is not good news considering the chaos surrounding the project and the anger of many with the way the platform is adapting the story, including the author of the books himself.

What Does Andrzej Sapkowski Think of The Witcher Series?

In a recent presentation at the Taipei International Book Exhibition (viaComicBook.com), the writer shared his opinion of Netflix’s work on his books:

“I’ve seen better. I’ve seen worse.”

While he wasn’t particularly kind to the platform adaptation, his words seem to indicate that, if nothing else, it’s better than 2001’s version,The Hexer. Sapkowski expressed his disgust with that production on several occasions, so at least he views the Netflix adaptation in a better light.

Sapkowski is the author of 6 fantasy novels and 15 short stories revolving around the eponymous “witcher,” Geralt of Rivia. These tales later inspired a popular video game saga, which made the Polish writer’s work even more famous. The Witcherbegan with a titular 1986 short story that Sapkowski entered into a competition held by Fantastyka magazine, marking his debut as an author. Due to reader demand, Sapkowski wrote 14 more stories before starting a series of novels in 1994. The videogame series has a total of 10 titles that also serve as inspiration for the tv show.
