Godzilla x Kong: The New EmpiredirectorAdam Wingardhas offered a promising update on his long-gestatingThunderCatsmovie, revealing that the adaptation of the beloved 80s cartoon could be “the next thing” he does. Speaking withGizmodo, Wingard revealed that he and his writing partner Simon Barrett are now “actively” working on theThundercatsproject again, with the movie one of their “top priorities.”
“Simon [Barrett] and I are still actively working on the script. We finished our last draft basically right when I was going into production on this movie and we just had to put everything on hold. [But] right now we’re actively working on it again. So whether that means that’s the next thing I do or [not], I’m not sure. But it’s definitely one of the top priorities I have right now in terms of working on a script.”

A live-actionThundercatsmovie is something that the Hollywood machine has been working on for quite some time now, with Wingard first announced as director back in 2021. While updates have been infrequent of late, writer Simon Barrett has previously teased the scope and vision of the movie, warning that audiencesare not “prepared” for what’s to come.
“I will say this, our Thundercats adaptation is going to be really, really cool. I don’t think people are at all prepared for how long Adam Wingard has spent thinking about ThunderCats. They are not ready for Adam’s ThunderCats movie. It is going to destroy.”

ThunderCats Remains a Beloved 80s Animation Classic
First airing way back in the before times of 1985,ThunderCatsis a science fiction story that follows a group of cat-like humanoid aliens from the planet Thundera. When the dying planet meets its end, the group, known as the Thundercats, is forced to flee its homeland, and end up on Third Earth, eventually battling all manner of mutants, monsters and the evil overlord, Mumm-Ra.
The original series has been a staple of many a childhood for decades now, with fans having wanted to seethe likes of Lion-O, Panthro, Cheetara, Snarf, and the rest of the gang in a big screen outing for almost just as long.

While we await the call of theThunderCats, director Adam Wingard will nextreturn to the MonsterVerseinGodzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Starring Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, Fala Chen, and Rachel House, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a sequel to 2021’sGodzilla vs. Kong, and the fifth installment in the MonsterVerse franchise.
