The young actor has revealed how the Hollywood veteran helped him in his performance forDune: Part Two, one of Chalamet’s biggest acting challenges. Cruise began his career at the age of 19, participating in the 1981 filmsEndless LoveandTaps. Two years later he would not only release four more films, but would also have his big break in Paul Brickman’sRisky Business. In 1985, with the release ofTop Gun, he would become one of the biggest names in Hollywood and, since then, he has not stopped leaving his mark on the film industry.
Chalamet, for his part, began his career at an even younger age, on an episode ofLaw & Orderin 2009. And although in the following years he has participated in several interesting projects, including the acclaimed Christopher Nolan filmInterstellar, his big break would come in 2017 with his performance as Elio Perlman in Luca Guadagnino’sCall Me by YourName.

Since then, the young actor has positioned himself as one of the most promising talents in Hollywood, reaching his highest point after being chosen to play Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation ofDune. After a successful first part, the sequel was confirmed, with Chalamet returning as the main star. And it seems thatTom Cruisewas a great help for the second part.
In an interview withGQ, theDunestar revealed that theMission: Impossibleactor sent him an email that inspired him for his performance in the sequel. In the email, Cruise sent him a list of stunt experts that would help Chalamet improve his performance and produce his best work:

“After I met Tom Cruise, right after finishing the first Dune, he sent me the most wonderfully inspiring email. He basically said, in Old Hollywood, you would be getting dance training and fight training, and nobody is going to hold you to that standard today. So it’s up to you.”

In the same interview, Chalamet confessed his fanaticism forTop Gun: Maverick, revealing that he took part of theDuneteam to see it and he himself watched it eight times:
“Top Gun’ was just hugely inspiring to me last summer when we were making Dune. Some of the crew were kind of scoffing at going, but I just thought it was one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen.”
