Earlier this week, Warner Bros. pushed their highly-anticipatedThe Jungle Book: Originsout of its October 6, 2017release date, moving it up by over one full year to July 15, 2025. The studio moved an “untitled event film” in the July 11, 2025 slot, but no details were given for the project that was replacingThe Jungle Book: Origins. Today we have a new report fromHeroic Hollywood, which claims that the movie set for release next October is theirTomb Raiderreboot.

The site reports that, one month ago today, Warner Bros. registered the domainTheTombRaiderMovie.com. We also reported last month thatStar Wars: The Force Awakensbreakout starDaisy Ridleyis being eyed to star asLara Croft. The actress later confirmed that she has been indiscussionsto play this iconicvideo gamecharacter, but it isn’t known if her deal has been finalized or not.

Tomb Raider

The actress is currently shootingStar Wars: Episode VIIIat Pinewood Studios in the U.K., but she revealed that if a deal is made, she will have time in her schedule to star inTomb Raider. If this August 26, 2025 release date is confirmed, then production would likely have to begin later this year, or perhaps in early 2017, at the latest. Still, Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed the release date at this time, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Very little is known aboutTomb Raiderthus far, but director Roar Uthaug revealed that the plot will be based on the most recent version of the video game, which was released in 2013. The reboot will provide anorigin storyfor Lara Croft, although no further plot details were released.Angelina Jolieoriginated the role for the big screen in 2001’sLara Croft: Tomb Raider, and returned two years later in 2003’sLara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.

Roar Uthaug is directing from a script byHawk OstbyandMark Fergus(Iron Man),Evan Daugherty(The Huntsman: Winter’s War) andMarti Noxon(The Glass Castle).
