The saying “too much of a good thing” is usually employed by despairing parents as they attempt to lure another chocolate bar away from their child’s mouth, in the hope that the thought of jeopardizing their liking of the said chocolate will act as enough of a deterrent that they will discard of the sweet treat without remonstration. For those above the age of 12, the phrase is probably more applicable to our favorite TV shows. Sometimes a show stays on far past its run, and it should have ended soon.
However, what about the shows we loved and never wanted to end? Fortunately, some great movies have been made following the conclusion of our favorite series, such asBreaking Bad’sEl Camino, the variousPsychmovies on Peacock, and now a new adventure for Adrian Monk titledMr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movieset to premiere on Peacock on August 11, 2025. Plus, fans have waited years for the highly anticipated release of theCommunitymovie. With that in mind, here are television shows we would like to see return as a movie.

Update July 28, 2025: Following the release of the trailer forMr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, this article has been updated with more television shows that should get movie continuations.
When YouTube attempted to create its own original content, they produced some highly underrated gems. WhileKobra Kaifound a home on Netflix,Waynewas canceled after a single season, and that is a damn shame.Wayneis a series created by Shawn Simmons, who wrote nearly all the episodes. The series stars Mark McKenna and Ciara Bravo and tells the story of a violent teenager who sets out to find his dad’s favorite car, which he longed to get back before dying of cancer.

Why It Should Get a Movie
This fabulous gem was canceled way too soon, and it didn’t have the time to find its audiencewith just a single season. Plus, the show ended on a cliffhanger, with Wayne and Del separated by the end of the season. Wayne is one of the most underrated characters you’re able to get on TV. He looks meek and dimwitted at first sight, but he has a heart of gold and zero tolerance for injustice. Wayne fixes wrongs whenever he sees them with striking violence, and he’s not afraid to get hurt to protect his girl. We need more of this material.

7Pushing Daisies
Pushing Daisies
Pushing Daisiesis a beloved series that premiered in 2007 and ran for two seasons; it was created by Bryan Fuller, the same man who brought youHannibaland probably the unluckiest showrunner of all time as this show endured the same fate asHannibal: it was canceled despite having a massive solid fan base that still longs for its return. Starring Lee Pace and Anna Friel, the show explores the unique abilities of Ned, a baker who can bring the dead back to life with a single touch, a skill he uses alongside his revived high school sweetheart and a private eye to solve murder cases.
In the age of revivals, it’s almost a cardinal sin we haven’t gotten a new shot at this property. Fuller has been pushing for a revival since 2011, pitching the show to the Starz network as a six-episode mini-series or a film. The showrunner also feels the pinch of leaving the show hanging on a cliffhanger without proper closure. All the players involved have expressed interest in returning to conclude the story. IfDexterhad a chance to fix its botched ending, why not let this one have its time in the limelight?

6Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
The Terminator property has as many timelines as Marvel and DC, and none have had a closing. However, in a line of underwhelming films, a TV show stands tall by offering something unique, new, and fresh.Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicleslasted for two seasons and picks up right after the events ofTerminator 2: Judgment Day. The show created by Josh Friedman disregards the events ofTerminator 3and tells a brand new tale with John and Sarah Connor still on the run while being chased by multiple killer machines sent back in time by Skynet, with a new Terminator model known as the T-900, codenamed Cameron protecting both this time.
As happens with mostTerminatortimelines, this story was left unfinishedand dangling on a cliffhanger. John was stranded in a future where nobody knew who he was and his role in saving humanity. The Sarah Connor Chroniclescertainly did something different, as the show indulged in a web of intricacy and conspirators led by Skynet from the future to ensure its own creation. The gripping narrative kept audiences on their toes as no one was to be trusted in John and Sarah’s world. Fans still feel empty for having this particular timeline half-baked when so much of the narrative was already built.

5Peep Show
The nine-season-long British sitcom,Peep Showremains one of the best, most original, andfunniest comedy showsever created. Following the lives of flatmates Mark Corrigan (David Mitchell) and Jez Usbourne (Robert Webb), the pair navigate the middle-class difficulties of early adulthood through to the existentialism of a midlife crisis. As the two friends embark on an arduous struggle to become more conventional members of a society that simply isn’t built for their peculiarities, the final episode of the brilliant POV sitcom reminds them they are just back to where they started.
Just as it happenswith successful sitcoms suchasSeinfeld,Friends,orThe Fresh Prince, a reunion would be great to follow up on the characters' lives after they finally managed to set in with their unique sense of normalcy. A film sequel would not only guarantee laughs but be a great way to revisit the pair and discover what came of their lives and their worldviews with all the social changes that have taken place since 2015.

4Once Upon a Time
Once Upon A Time
Once Upon a Timewas a series that reimagined popular fairy tales, mainly Disney versions of them, and set them in the modern setting. The series ran for seven seasons and featured a wide array of characters, with some drastic reimaginings of favorite Disney characters. The series ended in 2017 after an attempt to do a soft reboot of the franchise.
Why It Should Get Made
Once Upon a Timewas always limited by its television budget. It had many big fantastical ideas that were always limited by the scope of the television series budget. A feature film, either for theatrical or a streaming release, could allow the story to unfold like never before. The series is essentially the MCU but for Disney characters, and the movie could introducenew takes on films and characters the original series never got to do, likeTarzan,The Hunchback of Notre Dame,Atlantis: The Lost Empire,or new films that have aired since the series ended, likeRaya and the Last Dragon,Encanto, and the upcomingWish.

Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock franchise has confirmed that his take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic had a third movie in the offing, but that was over 12 years ago. More than a decade has passed since Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law sported the Edwardian tweed, frock coat, and multicolored waistcoat, and the final piece of the trilogy remains to be seen. However, when one door closes, another opens. A window of opportunity is very much ajar for the BBC’s critically acclaimedSherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman to take over from Downey Jr. and Law. Sherlock has become a flagship program on the BBC in the UK and PBS in the States and has developed such a substantial following that it’s bound to do incredible numbers at the cinema.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are massive stars now compared to the show’s premiere back in 2010. A film exploring the adventures of these two giants could keep the property in the limelight while showing the range of these actors outside their usual outings in superhero franchises. While Mark Gatisshas expressed difficulties in reviving the seriesgiven the stardom of its two leads, everything is possible, especially if the call is made for a single film where there’s bound to be more fan demand.
