For a couple of months now, it has been heavily rumored, and even seemingly confirmed, that UFC fighterConor McGregorwas going to appear inGame of Thrones season 7. UFC PresidentDana Whiteeven discussed it in an interview shortly after the rumors broke and based on his comments at the time, it seemed like it was a sure thing.Conor McGregorhas finally broken his silence on the matter and made it very clear that he is not going to be inGame of Thrones.

Entertainment Weeklyis reporting that the UFC champion himself has debunked these rumors during a recent interview. ButConor McGregordid reveal that HBO wanted him inGame of Thronesand some unnamed people from the network approached him about it after a fight some time ago. Here is what he had to say about it.

“That was everywhere and I’ve never even heard about it! I heard about it once after [a fight] … backstage in the dressing room. [UFC brass, including Dana White, were] in front of me and they were saying ‘these [vistors] want you to be in Game of Thrones.’ I’m banged up, my shin’s in a heap, I’ve been kicking his knee’s straight for 25 minutes, my leg’s in bits, and he’s trying to offer me aGame of Thrones role. And I’m saying, ‘Listen, come at me with sh- I want to hear, I’m not trying to be in show business, I’m trying to be in the fight business. Come at me with a real number to fight again. So that was the only time I ever heard the [words] Games of Thrones. And it went everywhere like months later! So I don’t know where that came from. But I’ve never been in contact with nobody from Game of Thrones and now I’m starring in Game of f-ing Thrones!”

With this in mind, it is sort of easy to see where theGame of Thronesrumors came from, but it is very clear thatConor McGregorwon’t be appearing in any TV shows or movies anytime soon. He is clearly very focused on his UFC career. At one point, a video surfaced online featuringConor McGregorsparring withHafthór Julíus Bjornsson, who plays Gregor Clegane, a.k.a.The Mountain, on the hit HBO series. That also kind of fueled and seemingly lent some credibility to the rumors, but they are now totally debunked.

Game of Thronesis doing just fine without adding anyUFCstars to the cast, seeing as it is still easily one of the most popular shows in the world. The series is getting ready to come to an end, with season 7 airing in a few short months and anticipation is very high. Unfortunately, bothGame of Thronesseason 7 and 8 will be shorter, with the upcoming season only having seven episodes. That being the case, havingConor McGregorin the show wouldn’t likely boost the ratings all that much. People are already very on board.

Game of Thronesseason 7 is scheduled to air this summer, which will be the second to last season of the show, though, HBO is exploring the possibility of a spinoff.Game of Thronesseason 8 was originally expected to only have six episodes, but it was recently reported that the episode order may get extended. The show normally airs in April, but because they needed to film in more snowy and wintery locations, they had to start production a bit later than usual. HBO hasn’t set an exact premiere date for Game of Thrones season 7 yet, but we should be finding out pretty soon. Just don’t expect to seeConor McGregorhanging out in Westeros this year. Or ever.
