Marvel Studios has released the first poster for the upcomingWandaVisionDisney+ series. Out of all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on the way, this is the one that a lot of fans are questioning. A superhero sitcom? While there may be some questions about how that will all play out, there are plenty of comic book fans who are under the impression that the series might be loosely based on Tom King’s The Vision comic book series. The poster certainly gives off that vibe.
Marvel Studios' Director of Visual Development, Andy Park, is also behind theWandaVisionposter. He unveiled hisBlack Widowposter over the weekend too. The first poster finds Paul Bettany’s Vision and Elizabeth Olsen’sScarlet Witchsitting in regular clothing in what looks like a 1950s backdrop. While it looks like an episode ofLeave it to Beaver, there is something darker going on just under the surface. Park had this to say about the poster.
“WandaVision!!! OfficialD23poster I had the honor of painting during the early concept phase of preproduction. This Disney+ show is gonna be something totally fresh… & weird!”
Upon closer inspection, theWandaVisionposter features a red glow on the TV, which makes it seem like Scarlet Witch is using her powers. And then, there’s the looming shadows in the background. Vision’s shadow shows us the non-human version with the Mind Stone visible in the forehead, while Scarlet Witch’s shadow shows her wearing the iconic headdress fromThe Vision comics, giving fans another indication that we might be seeing some of Tom King’s story told in the Disney+ series. King even retweeted the poster over the weekend.
Marvel Studios never takes anything from the comics and recreates it beat-for-beat on screen, so MCU fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about a direct adaptation of The Vision comics. With that being said, there have been other teases about what the show is based on. In a recent interview,Elizabeth Olsengave fans an idea of where the idea forWandaVisioncame from and what they might be able to expect. She explains.
“That’s what’s so funny, is Paul planted this idea before Disney was launching their own platform. I think it was just funny to him to think of us as doing a domestic sitcom, and somehow whatever he planted, he planted the seed and now we’re actually doing something. And it’s gonna be very different than what Paul would joke about, but I’m sure a lot of super-fans of the comics could have their own ideas of maybe what it could be. So I’m very excited.”
WandaVisionis certainly shaping up to be pretty different from anything else we’ve seen in the MCU. In addition the poster art, we also learned of some new cast members joining the team. Kat Dennings will be reprising her role as Darcy the firstThormovie and Randall Park will be back as Jimmy Woo, the government agent who appeared inAnt-Man and the Wasp. Kathryn Hahn has also joined the cast as a nosy neighbor.WandaVisionis expected to go into production this fall.
