Classic Metallica can make anything better. OneGame of Thronesfan has proven this by adding their classic song “For Whom the Bell Tolls” to last weekend’s penultimate episode as Daenerys goes full Targaryen on King’s Landing. The name of the episode is The Bells, and it is one of the most divisive television episodes in history. It even spawned a petition to have HBO redo season 8, which now has well over half a million signatures.

With that being said, watchingDaenerys torch King’s Landingto Metallica’s 1984 classic “For Whom the Bell Tolls” is almost too perfect.Game of Thronesshowrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are probably kicking themselves for not giving James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich , and the estate of Cliff Burton some dough for use of the song from their legendary album Ride the Lightning. The song takes its name from Ernest Hemingway’s novel of the same name about the Spanish Civil War and the dishonor of modern warfare.

Keeping the bloody images of the song’s origin is key and makes theGame of Thronesscene ten times better. Obviously,Metallicakicks off “For Whom the Bell Tolls” with a bell chiming, just like when King’s Landing surrenders. However, once Daenerys gets a hint of Cliff Burton’s fuzz bass shredding the iconic opening riff of the song, she begins to go crazy, which is when the carnage begins. While a dragon isn’t exactly modern warfare, it does parallel the lyrical content of the song pretty well as thousands of innocent people are burned alive.

Metallica’s heavy metal musicisn’t enough to fix everybody’s complaints about the finalGame of Thronesseason, but it is a step in the right direction. However, this could have turned into the perfect storm had the fan used a song from Metallica’s notorious stinker St. Anger, which would have caused the band and show’s fans to rally together and start one giant and violent rage tornado, which would have been way too heavy for anyone to survive. Thankfully, we have a classic song from one of the band’s best albums, so we shouldn’t have to worry about that rage tornado touching down any time soon.

Game of Thronesfans are gearing up forthis Sunday’s final episode. After eight years, the highly successfulHBOseries is coming to an end without the aid of George R.R. Martin’s source material. That has been one of the main sticking points about the show and the last few seasons as the storylines whip by instead of taking their time throughout multiple episodes or even one whole season. With that being said, it would be nearly impossible to keep the entire cast under contract to wait for Martin to finally deliver the last two books. For now, let’s hope everybody can get along and watch Daenerys destroy King’s Landing with Metallica by her side. You can watch the video below.
