HBO has confirmed theirWatchmenseries will premiere on October 20th. In addition, the network has provided viewers with a new behind-the-scenes look at the massive superhero drama. David Lindelof wants fans of the comic book source material to be get into the show, but he also wanted to create something that stands on its own, meaning potential viewers don’t have to be experts to enjoy it. The new featurette is easily our best look at theWatchmenseries thus far.
TheWatchmenseries begins when a new terrorist organization takes out some cops in a targeted attack. This leads to the police wearing masks to hide their identity, while the idea between good and bad starts to blur as people find new freedom from concealing their identities. Confusing things further, the show takes place in an alternate universe wheremasked vigilantes are treated as outlaws. Many were wondering what HBO was going to do withoutGame of Thrones, andWatchmenjust might be the answer in terms of scope and ambitiousness.
Thenostalgia of the source materialis all over theWatchmenfeaturette, along with cast and crew interviews. Regina King says the show is the biggest TV production she’s ever been a part of, while showrunner David Lindelof continues to tease fans of the source material about what and who will be in the series. HBO is taking a pretty big risk with the series, especially since it deviates so much away from the beloved source material. Either fans are going to get into it and the new world within a world that Lindelof has created, or they’re not. Alan Moore has already revealed his displeasure with the series.
