Last month, it was announced that theSherlock Season 4 premierewill kick off the New Year on Sunday, January 1, airing on the BBC for fans in the U.K. and on PBS for U.S. viewers. With fans chomping at the bit for these episodes to finally arrive, the BBC has unveiled photos from this upcoming season ofSherlock, which gives us our first look at John Watson’s (Martin Freeman) baby, and the new villain, Culverton Jones, played byToby Jones. It’s possible that these new photos could pave the way for a trailer to arrive soon, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Toby Joneswill star in the second episode of the brand new three-part season as Culverton Jones. This character was featured in theArthur Conan Doylestory “The Adventure Of The Dying Detective.” Episode two will be directed byNick Hurran, who was Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries for “His Last Vow”, aSherlock Season 3episode. The first episode this season has been confirmed to be called The Six Thatchers.

There are already theories that the title could be a reference to the SirArthur Conan Doylestory The Adventure of the Six Napoleons, which was published in 1904, where the duo investigated a number of crimes related to broken statues. It’s possible this new story could swap out the French military leader for the Great Britain Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, but no official plot details have been given for this episode yet. With the premiere date getting closer and closer, hopefully new plot details will surface soon.
Promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases, Season four will begin with the nation’s favorite detective, the mercurialSherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time. The first of the three feature-length episodes in Sherlock Season 4 will be directed byRachel Talalay, who has worked as a director, producer, and professor in film and television for more than 25 years, having previously directed Doctor Who, The Flash and The Wind in the Willows.
