A new list of MPA film ratings has revealed thatWes Anderson’s upcoming movieAsteroid Cityhas been given an R-rating. However, the film’s current rating comes with a note that Anderson is planning to appeal the decision with the C.A.R.A. Appeals board. Although the movie will join the minuscule 1.4% that appeal the Motion Picture Association’s rating decisions, there is no guarantee that the appeal against the R-rating will be a success.

According to the listing,Asteroid Cityhas been given a strong rating for “brief graphic nudity.” As there are seemingly no other aspects of the movie that have given the MPA cause for concern, Anderson’s appeal may be overturned, but it could also force the director to make some minor cuts to the final movie to secure a lower rating.

The task of lowering a movie’s rating is no easy feat, as the appeals board has been set up to give ratings that serve as a “best reflection of the opinion of most American parents about the suitability of that motion picture for viewing by their children.” The main thing in favor ofAsteroid Cityis that there don’t seem to be any other notable reasons for the film being hit with an unexpected R rating than its moment of nudity.
