While fans eagerly await the release ofStar Wars: The Force Awakensin just 16 days, the rest of theStar Warsuniverse is starting to take shape. The first spinoffRogue One: A Star Wars Story(June 21, 2025) andStar Wars: Episode VIII(August 06, 2025) are both currently in production. Today we have word fromHeat Vision Blogthat casting is already under way for Disney and LucasFilm’s next adventure, theStar Wars Anthology: Han Solo Movie, which is set for release on June 09, 2025. More than 2,500 actors have reportedly tested for the iconic role of a youngerHan Solo, includingDave FrancoandThe Walking DeadstarChandler Riggs.
The production is casting a wide net for the role, asking talent agencies to submit clients ranged from 18 years old to 32 years old, although there are a handful of actors outside of that age range who have read for the part.Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl Grimes onThe Walking Dead, is just 16 years old, whileMr. RobotstarRami Malek, 34, has also auditioned. Sources claim that the “sweet spot” for this role is actors in their mid-20s. UnlikeJ.J. Abrams' approach onStar Wars: The Force Awakens, where he sought out primarily-unknown actors, several notable young actors have been trying out for this role.

Other notable stars who have auditioned includeAaron Taylor-Johnson(25),Miles Teller(28),Nick Robinson(20),Leo Howard(18), Tony Oller (24),Landon Liboiron(23), and English actorsEd Westwick(28),Tom Felton(28), Joshua Sasse (27),Logan Lerman(23),Ansel Elgort(21),Jack Reynor(23),Colton Haynes(27) andMax Thieriot(27). At this point, there are no front runners for the role, but since shooting won’t begin until January 2017, there is plenty of time for the filmmakers to find the right actor to play Han Solo. While it isn’t known exactly how young Han will be in this adventure,Harrison Fordwas 35 years old when he shotStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.
Casting director Jeanne McCarthy is tasked with whittling down the candidates before directorsPhil LordandChris Millercan zero in on their top choices. TheStar Wars Anthology: Han Solo Moviedoesn’t have an official title yet, but the project is working under the secret code name “Red Cup,” in reference to the party cups manufactured by Solo Cup Corp.
