The Rise of Skywalkerhits theaters around the world tomorrow and manyStar Warsfans are wondering if Baby Yoda fromThe Mandalorianmakes an appearance. The world premiere for the long awaited final installment in the Skywalker Saga was held earlier this week in Hollywood and director J.J. Abrams was able to answer a few questions about the massive movie and whether or not The Child has any part in it or not. There are possibleSPOILERSforThe Rise of Skywalkerbelow, so read ahead at your own risk.
When J.J. Abrams was asked directly about the possibility of The Child showing up inThe Rise of Skywalker, he simply replied, “Baby Yodais not in this movie.” That sounds about right, since it would have been hard to keep that secret on such a large project. Jon Favreau and crew were able to keep it a secret onThe Mandalorianbecause not many people knew what to expect with the smaller-scale TV series while it was being made. They were able to mostly fly under the radar.
While Baby Yoda, referred to asThe Child, is not inStar Wars 9, J.J. Abrams seems to be pretty enamored with the adorable little, Force-using creature. The director referred to the latestStar Warscreature to capture the hearts of fans the “cutest thing in the history of time. How do you deny Baby Yoda? You cannot.” When the interviewer declared that he preferred the original version of Yoda, Abrams looked at him in disbelief and deadpanned, “You have a heart of stone, my friend.” There’s not a whole lot of people who don’t like Baby Yoda at this point in time.
Thefirst reactions to The Rise of Skywalkerare in and this one may prove to be even more divisive thanThe Last Jedi. However, Baby Yoda may have been able to be the little green hope that all fans could have agreed on, had he been involved in the movie. Regardless, the sequel trilogy has already proven to be a hot button topic for diehard fans, some of which love everything that has come out since 2015. Others have been a bit more critical with the latest output.
The Mandalorianseems to have come at the perfect time forStar Warsfans. At a time when many were calling out franchise fatigue, the Disney+ series has been able to capture the original feelings of what George Lucas' creations contained, while moving forward in a direction that seems fresh and exciting. It has fan service, but it is done well and does not beat the viewers over the head with it, which something thatThe Rise of Skywalkerhas been criticized for in the early reviews and reactions. With that being said, we only have one more episode ofThe Mandalorianto go. Will it be able to go out on top? you may check out the interview with J.J. Abrams below, thanks to theVariety Twitteraccount.
