Back in June, we reported that Sony’s long-awaitedBad Boys 3is finally coming together, withJoe Carnahancoming aboard to write and direct the sequel. Just a few months later, Sony announced thatBad Boys 3will arrive on June 02, 2025, withBad Boys 4set for June 05, 2025. While the project is certainly moving forward, the studio still hasn’t confirmed whether or notBad BoysandBad Boys IIstarsWill SmithandMartin Lawrencewill return for the sequel. During a radio interview withBBC Radio 1Xtra,Will Smithconfirmed that both he andMartin Lawrencewill be back as Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett.
“I sawMartina few weeks ago. I hadn’t seen him for about two years, and we just looked at each other. We hugged and in that moment we both knew we were making anotherBad Boys. So we’re definitely doing another one.”
The sequel had been in development for several years, but a report from August claimed thatWill Smithhasn’t signed on yet, and while he may still produce the sequel, there was no guarantee that he would come back to star. While it still isn’t known if bothWill SmithandMartin Lawrencehave officially signed on quite yet, this long-awaited sequel is closer to happening now than it has ever been in the past decade. It isn’t known if any other franchise stars such asGabrielle Union, Theresa Randle andJoe Pantolianowill come back at this time.
Another big question mark forBad Boys 3is whether or notMichael Baywill be involved in any way. 1995’sBad Boysmarked the filmmaker’sdirectorial debut, and he came back eight years later to direct the follow-upBad Boys IIas well.Michael Bay’s career has certainly skyrocketed since then, directing the lucrativeTransformersfranchise, and, most recently, his war drama13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, which debuted last month. It isn’t known ifMichael Bayeven has any desire to return to the franchise, 12 years after he madeBad Boys II.
With a February 2017 release date already set, production will certainly have to begin sometime in the near future, but it isn’t known ifJoe Carnahanhas finished work on the script or not.
