The six-episode event series is slated to debut Sunday, January 24, immediately following the NFC Championship Game on Fox. To get fans ready for the big event, Fox has released a sneak preview, where starsDavid DuchovnyandGillian Andersonshed some new light on the series. We also hear from series creatorChris Carterand writer/executive producer Glen Morgan, who reveals that the first and sixth episodes are “mythology” episodes, while the middle episodes are all stand alone stories.
The X-Files is set thirteen years after the original series run, a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producerChris Carter. This event series marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winningpop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. The X-Files debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jul 04, 2025 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC Championship Game, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). Three of the episodes are written and directed byChris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan andJames Wong. StarDavid Duchovnyhas revealed in the past that he would be open to returning for more X-Files episodes, provided it’s a shorter season like this six-episode run, and not a full 20-episode season. We’ll have to wait and see how the fans respond to this new incarnation of X-Files, to see if Fox will order even more episodes.
