AfterX-Men: Apocalypseand the spinoffsDeadpoolandGambithit theaters next year, andWolverine 3in 2017, 20th Century Fox’s plans for their belovedX-Menfranchise remain unclear. The studio also has theirFantastic Fourreboot arriving in theaters this August, withThe Fantastic Four 2sequel already set for August 16, 2025. Today we have a new report from Latino Review that claims the studio is pondering a crossover between both superhero franchises to be released in 2018.

This is all assuming thatFantastic Fouris a hit this summer,The Fantastic Four 2runs smoothly andX-Men: Apocalypsedoesn’t tank at the box office. But 20th Century Fox is reportedly considering anX-Men/Fantastic Fourmovie featuringMiles Teller(Mr. Fantastic),Michael B. Jordan(The Human Torch),Kate Mara(The Invisible Woman) andJamie Bell(The Thing). It is unclear whichX-Mencharacters will join them (if it happens). Also unknown is who may write and direct this crossover movie, or if a full story has already been worked out. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about these two franchises crossing over, with producerSimon Kinbergrevealing in October that a crossover is possible, but it likely won’t happen for several years. This is the first we’re hearing of a 2018 timeline for the crossover though, so perhaps the studio is more receptive to the project.

SinceX-Men: Apocalypsetakes place in the 1980s, featuring the younger versions of mutants such as Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult), it seems unlikely that these characters will be used in the crossover. However, last year’sX-Men: Days of Future Pastdid create a new present day timeline, so it’s possible that originalX-Menstars such asPatrick Stewart(Professor X),Ian McKellen(Magneto),Famke Janssen(Jean Grey),James Marsden(Cyclops),Halle Berry(Storm) andAnna Paquin(Rogue) could be brought back. What do you think about the possibility of anX-MenandFantastic Fourcrossover?
