Amazon Is Ramping Up Its Original Content Output

With so many recent successful feature and series projects at Amazon Studios and many more still in the pipeline, it’s relatively safe to say that the streaming platform is starting to go toe-to-toe with the other big fish in the pond, namely Netflix. Even Apple TV+ is shaping up to be competition as well. The number of original content projects Amazon undertook shot up astronomically in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, then scaled back substantially the following year.

However, the pendulum then swung strongly back in the other direction in 2022, with several dozen new feature projects flowing through, many of them with very sizable budgets and filled with abundant A-list talent. This isn’t even including the avalanche of acclaimed original series that have been popping up more and more. Most recently we’ve gotten psychological horror mini-seriesSwarm, the final season ofThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Tolkien-influenced fantasy prequelThe Rings of Power, Rachel Weisz’sDead Ringers, Christoph Waltz’s newest villain role inThe Consultant, popular new adult animated seriesInvincible, and the first season of new spy action seriesCitadel.
