While Warner Bros.' DC Comics Extended Universe doesn’t fully kick off until this weekend’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s quite obvious the studio is doing things much different than their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart. The movies are much darker, eschewing the lighter tone of the MCU, but another major difference is that Warner Bros. and DC are keeping its film and TV universes separate. After The CW’s hit seriesThe Flashdebuted in 2014, many fans wanted to seeGrant Gustintransition as the Scarlet Speedster to the big screen, but the studio chose Ezra Miller to play Barry Allen in the two-partJustice Leaguemovie, andThe Flashstand alone movie.Justice LeaguedirectorZack Snyderrevealed in an interview withNew York Daily NewsthatGrant Gustinjust didn’t fit into this world.
“I just don’t think it was a good fit. I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where…that (tone is) not our world. Even ifGrant Gustinis my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good, we made a commitment to themulti-verse(idea), so it’s just not a thing that’s possible.”
Oddly enough, Warner Bros. revealed their massive DC Extended Universe in mid-October 2014, which included the announcement ofEzra MillerasThe Flash. The announcement was just one week afterThe FlashTV series had debuted on The CW. The show is currently in the midst of its second season, and as its popularity kept growing, many fans of the show started bashingEzra Miller, which lead toGrant Gustinissuing a statement on his Twitter page, asking for fans to stop lashing out at the actor.
The Flashmovie will most likely fall in line with the darker tone of the DCEU, and whileThe FlashTV series certainly has its fair share of dark moments, there are plenty of light-hearted moments as well. Even if the director did wantGrant Gustinto star, the shooting schedule of both the Justice League movies andThe Flashadventure would likely conflict with the TV series in some way. We’ll have to wait and see if fans of the show will eventually embraceEzra Milleras the big-screen Barry Allen or not.
We’ll get our first look atEzra Miller’s Barry Allen/The Flashin this weekend’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, along with his fellowJustice LeaguemembersAquaman(Jason Momoa) andCyborg(Ray Fisher). Production is scheduled to begin on April 11 on Justice League Part 1, although we don’t know when shooting will begin onThe Flashmovie yet, which will be directed bySeth Grahame-Smith(Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). Would you still like to seeGrant Gustin’s Barry Allen on the big screen, or do you thinkEzra Milleris a better fit?
