Zoe Saldañawants to beam aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise “one last time.” Saldaña portrayed the role of Uhura, which was played for decades by the late Nichelle Nichols, in three films beginning with J.J. Abrams’ 2009Star Trek. And while promotingSpecial Ops: Lioness’arrival on DVD and Blu-ray, Saldaña revealed her desire to make one moreStar Trekfilm. Saldaña said in an exclusive interview withComicBook.com:
“I know. I mean I heard what you heard in the Trades. I just heard that they’re gearing up to do a a new one with a younger sort of, take on it. Like it’s been off. I don’t know if it’s, if it’s from the before or the after, but that they really still hope to grab all of us veterans and bring us back for one last round.

Listen, I know it’s a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules. But, working with J.J. Abrams, and for J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot was always just a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So, if I get to do that one last time, I would be so grateful.”

Zoe Saldaña’s Love for Star Trek
Zoe Saldaña first donned Uhura’s trademark red uniform in J.J. Abrams’Star Trek(2009), and she reprised the role inStar Trek Into DarknessandStar Trek Beyond. And, if Saldaña has her way, she will reunite withStar Trekfamily, which she loved working with, one final time. Saldaña said in an interview withBBC Radio 1:
“I also remember, because of the three Star Trek movies that I’ve done, that being in the same room with Simon Pegg, John Cho or Anton, Anton Yelchin… sometimes Chris Pine, whenever he wanted to jump in. Zachary Quinto was hysterical.

Saldaña added:
“Because these are very educated individuals, and they’re masters of words, and they would whip out little jokes here and there. That was really hard, to stay in character and improvise with them, but I don’t improvise. I do in Spanish, but not in English.”
Unfortunately, if Saldaña gets her wish, one integralStar Trekalum will be missing from the big-screen reunion:Anton Yelchin died back in 2016. The actor portrayed the part of Mr. Chekov, who was partially based on The Monkees' band member, Davy Jones, when the character first appeared in season two ofStar Trek: The Original Series— and was originally played by Walter Koenig.

Season one ofSpecial Ops: Lionessis now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
